I’ve forgotten how to write and how to enjoy it! Nothing comes to me. Everything feels forced. The worst part is I don’t have anything to work towards. I know I work best when I have to produce something by a deadline, and now there’s no incentive. Maybe I try should try a challenge blog, or NaNoWriMo. I’m awful at committing to anything – paying up money for something is also so hard. Problem is, too many wannabe writers out there. Too many wannabe everything out there. Maybe just too many people on the planet. Which is why leaving is appealing. Less competition on Mars. There I could be more highly valued.
Back to writing, I need to remember the basics of scene writing. Set the scene and make sure its obvious where we are, what’s going on right from the start. Include all the bricks of detail and the five senses. Know what the MC wants and make it clear. If there’s someone else in the scene, what do they want. Scenes work best when they both want something and are trying to sway the outcome. So – reminder to self to stick to the basics. Is there a clear sense of setting? Are there bricks of detail? What is the CDQ of the scene? What is the outcome? How flipping hard can it be??
